The Her Shakti Centre

A workspace and community centre where we currently employ 7 beneficiaries from marginalised communities, in flexible and part-time work.

The women who we employ come from various disadvantaged backgrounds, many widows and single mothers trying to support their families, and some, victims of domestic abuse and violence. For many, they dropped out of school at a young age and working at the Her Shakti Centre is often their first experience of employment. By employing them we wish to give them both a source of income, as well as help them learn new skills.

Over our five years, we have supported 34 women through a secure income and flexible working hours.

We address the need for vulnerable women to find valuable and meaningful work.

Through our sewing and sales training, we set out to build the confidence of our beneficiaries and increase their employability and independence.

Train-the-trainer model

Since February 2019, our train-the-trainer model has been implemented in an effort to reduce the hierarchies present in the skill-development process. This is our goal: to implement ethical practice into every stage of our enterprise, in order to support our beneficiaries in any way we can.

Community is at the heart of the Her Shaki Centre, so we regularely invite people to share our space.
