The innovation of our sustainable period pad is what makes our social enterprise so great!

All profits from sales of our pads are reinvested into our social impact work, as well as our cross-subsidisation model to make our pads as affordable as possible. Buying a Sanitree pad directly aids the distribution of pads to those who need it most. The reason for its popularity is simple:

it is safer, cheaper and more eco-friendly than its alternatives.

Our design

Our pads are made from 1 layer of single-side brushed cotton (dyed with AZO-free dye), five layers of thin, ultra-absorbent, non bleached, organic cotton and one layer of waterproof polyurethane laminate (PUL), with lead-free stainless steel poppers.

The pads are fully biodegradable once the recyclable poppers have been removed. Click here to discover more about the sustainability of our pads.

Our pads come in three sizes day, night and pantyliner on general sale as well as a maternity pad and have discrete and attractive packaging made from textile offcuts.

PUL is the same fabric used to make umbrellas!

Why make the switch?

Safer.

It offers a hygienic alternative to the rags, husk and other inadequate materials currently used by some women in India. Plastic pads contain irritating and carcinogenic chemicals which can be harmful for the body, especially as labial walls are highly vascular with a tendency for greater absorbency. They can release toxic gases when disposed of by incinerating incorrectly, which is common since there are few regulations on the increasingly used incineration methods in India.

Cheaper.

By nature of their reusability, over time our pads are cheaper than single-use alternatives which are priced at a premium because of their expensive production process. Thus saving a UK consumer £38.64 and a customer in India up to Rs. 5,553 (£55.44) over two years. We sell our pads at a unit price that is affordable, and our subsidisation model means that period dignity is accessible for those in the most vulnerable economic positions. Importantly, a long-term investment in a Sanitree pad means that menstruators don’t have to worry about accessibility, which many do, as it can be used for two years.

Eco-friendly.

Our pad is reusable and biodegradable, cutting out the necessity for repeated single-use plastic waste and supporting the circular economy. The pads are made with offcuts from the textile industry for the outer layer and utilise four layers of brushed cotton with a polyurethane laminate base for optimum absorption and leak protection. We package our product completely plastic-free; instead, the Sanitree pad comes with a handy pouch for daily storage, made entirely from recycled fabric waste from the textile industry. Every pouch is unique.
